The Research Institutes

The core units of the Polish Academy of Sciences are research institutes, acting not only within their respective institutions, but also forming research agreements, consortia and networks, and working with the business sector as part of research centers. Out of the sixty-eight institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, over a dozen have been awarded the highest category A+ by the Committee for Evaluation of Scientific Units of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and thus are considered leading scientific and R&D centers, while eleven institutes enjoy the National Leading Research Center status. The Academy is a member of about sixty international organizations in the field of research and also cooperates with seventy foreign partner institutions. (For more information see PAN). The the Staszic Palace houses over a dozen scientific institutes and a few scientific societies. Alongside the Warsaw Scientific Society, which carries on the traditions of the historic Warsaw Society of the Friends of Learning, the Palace also houses the Polish Philosophical Society, the Polish Sociological Society and the Adam Mickiewicz Literary Society.
