“Not for today’s benefit but for the sake
and avail of future generations”
Stanisław Staszic

Since its early days, the structure overlooking Warsaw’s Krakowskie Przedmieście has been reserved for scientific institutions.
Erected by Antoni Corazzi, commissioned by Stanisław Staszic, for the Warsaw Society of the Friends of Learning, the building is now the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Warsaw Scientific Society. As in the 19th century, it not only houses institutes, laboratories, libraries, and archives, but also is a venue for open meetings and public events.
